Non-Toxic Household Swaps for a Non-Toxic Year

Looking to start the New Year off on the right foot? We can’t think of a better way than to swap a few non-toxic house hold products! So often we make sure that our food is free from preservatives, additives and chemicals. But it’s often overlooked for the products we use everyday in our house. Not only can eco-friendly products work just as well (sometimes better), you’re also doing good for the environment and creating a safe and healthy space for your home. And if all sounds like a bit too much to bite off, take a deep breath and know that even the smallest change can have a big impact! One step at a time.

Bee’s Wrap Food Storage

What’s the buzz about Bee’s Wrap? Unlike other plastic food storage alternatives, Bee’s Wrap is natural, compostable, and made with only four simple ingredients (organic cotton, beeswax, organic plant oil and tree resin). The result is a truly natural plastic and silicone free alternative that breaks down in the compost instead of sticking to the planet. Giving you every reason to ditch the plastic wrap and plastic sandwich bags!

But why? Because every piece of plasticever made still exists today. Just one pack of Bee’s Wrap can save 1,667 sq. feet of plastic wrap from entering our oceans and landfills each year. That’s enough plastic to cover a single-family home. Come into the shop and check out our selection of sandwich bags, covers and bee’s wrap rolls!

Botanica and Grumpshine Candles

One of the best things in life is lighting a candle in a freshly clean home, right? We can promise you it’s even better if you’re lighting a non-toxic candle! Non-toxic candles are free from parabens, phthalates, sulfates or dyes. They are typically made from soy or cotton wax, cotton wicks, and are scented with essential or phthalate-fee fragrance oil. We currently have two different brands in the shop, Botanica and Grumpshine candles.

Botanica is ‘one for good’ and donates $1 from each candle and apothecary product sold back to region-specific non-profit organizations in the areas indigenous to their fragrance ingredients. Each scent is inspired by the foundation it gives back to! Grumpshine candles are locally crafted and hand poured in Jacksonville, Florida!

Dot and Army Scrubbies

If you want a clean slate starting the New Year, the easiest thing to do is ditch that stinky sponge! But really, who likes a stinky sponge? We’ve got the best replacement with Dot and Army scrubbies! They are handmade from a nylon material and dry easily so you can avoid the unpleasant odor of traditional sponges. They are super durable and can last up to six months!

By ditching your traditional kitchen sponge, that’s one less item in your house with microplastics! Microplastics are essentially tiny bits of plastic that are sneaky enough to be hidden inside products that you wouldn’t think of as being plastic in the first place! Since they’re so small, they usually pass through the water filtration system and make it through to our oceans and rivers. And if you think about how often you do your dishes, it’ll help you understand how toxic your dish routine can really be!

LooHoo Wool Dryer Balls

One easy way to reduce harmful chemicals in your home is to add LooHoos wool dryer balls to your clothes dryer instead of dryer sheets. LooHoos will naturally soften clothes, reduce dry time, and save you money.

Made from 100% natural wool, their dryer balls are a sustainable choice that can help reduce your carbon footprint. They're also reusable for up to 1,000 loads, making them a long-lasting and cost-effective investment for your laundry routine. But their dryer balls don't just benefit the environment - they also provide a range of practical benefits. For starters, they reduce drying time by up to 25%, saving time and energy. That means you can toss them in the dryer with your clothes and get on with your day, without having to constantly check on the progress of your laundry. Wool dryer balls also help soften clothes naturally, eliminating the harsh chemicals found in traditional fabric softeners. This is especially beneficial for those with sensitive skin or allergies, as wool is hypoallergenic and gentle on the skin. You can enjoy the softness and fluffiness of your clothes without the risk of irritation or adverse reactions. So why not make the switch? You'll be doing your part to reduce your environmental impact and feel good knowing that you have one more thing helping to create your non-toxic home space!

We hope you found these few simple tips helpful, and mostly achievable! We understand wanting to do right by the planet and one of the most inspiring things you can do for yourself is create a non-toxic space within your own home. If you’re looking for a more non-toxic 2024, just know that every little bit helps! Even small steps are still steps in the right direction. Small change, big impact! Cheers to the New Year!
